Davao Priest Fr. Oscar Novem Enjaynes Passes Away While Climbing Mt. Apo

DAVAO CITY – A Davao priest suddenly collapse and passed away while climbing the country’s highest mountain Mt. Apo.

The 51-year-old priest identified as Fr. Oscar Novem Enjaynes together with 14 other climbers from the cities of Davao and Digos have decided to climb the mountain via Kapatagan trail. The group started from Sitio Mainit, Barangay Kapatagan.

Digos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief John Sevilla reported that Father Oscar felt weak and suddenly died after four hours of climbing. The priest passed out along Sitio Upper Paradise.

Sevilla said that the group is just traveling the trail at a slow pace while heading to the campsite. He even performed CPR on the priest hoping that the latter will survive but Enjaynes failed.

CDRRMO responders together with porters and guides created an improvised stretcher to carry Father Oscar’s remains down to the mountain. The group experience hardships carrying the remains along muddy paths due to heavy rains.

Several social media users have expressed their condolences towards unexpected demise of the priest.

“We pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Fr. Oscar Novem ‘Auckhs’ Enjaynes, OP, former vice president for financial affairs of the Colegio. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen,” Colegio de San Juan de Letran said.
