On Tuesday, DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said during a press briefing that the easing of restrictions related to coronavirus pandemic should be done gradually.

Vergeire also said that they didn’t need to rush in implementing such measures and the DOH has no recommendation for that yet.

According to Vergeire, it’s not yet time to implement the optional wearing of face masks for indoor spaces or areas wherein all evidence shows that the probability of transmitting coronavirus infection is higher when in indoor and enclosed spaces.

So we do this in phases. Sana magtulungan tayo. I agree with the statement that ito po ay responsibilidad po natin lahat but government has to guide kung kailan magkakaroon tayo ng ganitong mandato,” she said. “Government still has that mandate over the health of each and every Filipino.

Vergeire also said that there’s also a possibility that the mandatory wearing of face masks in outdoor spaces or areas may be reimposed if the situation calls for it, especially if healthcare utilization rate of a specific area reaches about 50% – 70%.

On Tuesday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged LGUs to strictly implement the policy that requires the wearing of face masks in public transportation and indoor places.

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos said that LGUs should take the lead in ensuring compliance from the public to the indoor and public transport face mask policy in their respective areas.
