A worker at a food manufacturing firm was arrested for stealing a bottle of chlorine worth 61 pesos only
CHLORINE – A man who works at a food manufacturing firm in Compostela, Cebu was arrested for stealing a bottle of chlorine worth P61.
Florito Pelit, 28, a sanitation worker, was apprehended after trying to sneak out a bottle of chlorine from the plant where he’s employed on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022.
According to Pelit, he stole the bottle of chlorine because he wanted to disinfect the rainwater stored in the concrete tank in his residence so that it can be used by his two kids.
Compostela Police Station chief Lt. Andrew Rellanos said that the item was discovered in possession of Pelit thru a routine inspection conducted by the firm’s security guard Jubert Luchavez at 5:11 p.m. on the exiting employees.
While the security guard is checking the belongings of Pelit, he found a bottle of chlorine hidden in the worker’s lunchbox.
According to Sunstar, the bottle of chlorine is believed to have been stolen from the housekeeping department of the said firm where the suspect works.
The Chief of Compostela Police Station said that the suspect turned emotional and sought his employer’s forgiveness when they confronted him.
After hearing Pelit’s reason, he offered to pay for the stolen item. However, despite Rellanos’ gesture, the firm is determined to file qualified theft against Pelit.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that such an incident happened. Accordingly, one of the firm’s employees was sued before for trying to sneak out hotdogs worth P30.
