Meet the new chiefs for AFP, PNP and NBI
BONGBONG MARCOS – The president has named new chiefs for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles confirmed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Bartolome Bacarro as the new AFP Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. as the new PNP chief, and Medardo de Lemos as the new NBI director.
Bacarro is the Commander of Southern Luzon Command, a Medal for Valor awardee, and a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Maringal Class of 1988.
The change of command at AFP General headquarters in Quezon City is slated for August 8, 2022.
Bacarro will replace outgoing Chief of Staff Gen. Andres Centino.
According to the law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last April 13, 2022, Bacarro will serve the armed forces for three years.
On the other hand, Azurin Jr. will take over the post of PNP Chief Vicente Danao.
Danao is the current Officer in Charge of the Philippine National Police.
He has been with the Philippine National Police for over 29 years. His longest term as police chief was between October 2013 and June 2016 in Davao City.
He also served as Chief of the National Capital Region Police Office from 2020 until 2022.
Aside from that, he served as the deputy director for operations of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and as task force commander under the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs.
While De Lemos was first appointed as Officer-in-Charge of NBI and is now the director of the agency.
