Jaclyn Jose speaks about Cherie Gil
JACLYN JOSE – The award-winning actress opened up about the passing of late actress Cherie Gil.
Cherie Gil was a multi-awarded actress earning local and international awards such as FAMAS, MMFF, ASEAN International Film Awards, and Madrid International Film Festival.
Her showbiz career started when she was only nine years old.
Her career skyrocketed when she played the iconic role of Lavinia Arguelles in Bituing Walang Ningning where she uttered the famous line “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” to Dorina, Sharon Cuneta’s character.
Because of her acting prowess which landed her in numerous antagonistic roles, she was dubbed the “La Primera Contravida”.
Cherie Gil was the daughter of Filipino singer-actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, and sister of fellow actors, Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil.
She was married to Rony Rogoff, a violinist; the couple had two children, Bianca and Raphael.
Aside from them, she also had another child, Jeremiah David (Jay), from a previous relationship with actor Leo Martinez.
It was in February this year when she decided to stay for good in the US to focus on her “mental, emotional, spiritual states” and “to be with her kids.”
In a press conference, Jaclyn Jose opened up about the passing of Cherie Gil, the sister of her late former partner, actor Mark Gil.
“We are all very sad about it. Hindi lang naman ako, kung ‘di buong industriya ay nagluksa, kasi isang batikang aktres ‘yung nawala, eh. Tapos malapit pa sa akin,” she said.
According to Jaclyn Jose, she and Cherie Gil had a good relationship and never had any issues with each other.
It was on August 5 when Gil passed away due to cancer.
