Last Saturday, August 20, a man allegedly asked Victor Malabayabas, 60, for a tissue. He went to offer him one, but the suspect grabbed him by the shirt and slammed him into a car before throwing him to the ground. He then stole his wallet and fled.

“It was a random robbery and assault and unfortunately, he succumbed to a blood vessel in his brain,” Isa Thompson, a cousin of his wife said.

“According to Carina, right after the incident, he was a little bit conscious but when he was brought to the emergency room, that’s when his condition deteriorated almost really quickly,” she added.

Malabayabas was described by Thompson as being straightforward, modest, and loving. She added that Malabayabas, who emigrated to the US in 1996 from Los Baños, Laguna, had recently retired. The ex-pilot with the Philippine Navy volunteered his time in the neighborhood and at his church.

Members of St. Casimir Church frequently talk about how kind Malabayabas has been in the lives of others. His supporters are requesting accountability and justice.

The suspect in the Malabayabas case has not been located, according to police, who spoke to ABS-CBN News. Thompson said there’s little to no chance of locating the assailant.
