Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes booed during match vs Saudi Arabia
CHOT REYES – The basketball coach was booed after being introduced as head coach of Gilas Pilipinas ahead of the match against Saudi Arabia.
It was on Monday, August 29 when the Philippine men’s basketball team faced off with Saudi Arabia in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
At the end of the game, Gilas Pilipinas won after scoring 84 points while Saudi Arabia only scored 46 points.
Among those present in their match which was held at Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena was Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
But before the game began, each team was introduced to the crowd.
However, when Chot Reyes was introduced as head coach of the Philippine men’s basketball team, he was booed by Filipino basketball fans.
The incident was recorded on camera and was shared on various social media platforms. As expected, the video spread online like wildfire.
In the video, fans were enraged when they saw the face of Reyes on screen who was blamed for giving a record-breaking defeat to the Philippine men’s basketball team in the past weeks.

Chot Reyes earned the ire of netizens after he earlier said that Gilas Pilipinas doesn’t need to win against Lebanon.
At one point, the basketball coach told his critics that he was not working for them.
“I don’t work for the bashers or for the haters. I win, I’m basked. I lose, I’m bashed, but I worry more about my family. They’re getting bashed, too,” he said.
Meanwhile, netizens gave mixed reactions to what happened to Reyes ahead of the match.
“The satisfaction of hearing the crowd boos for Chot Reyes from his motherland. Keep ‘em going,” @mkarlgatdula commented.
“The boos to Chot Reyes, in your own country sir,” @nationalufan noted.
The head coach of Gilas Pilipinas has yet to give any reaction to the incident.
