YOUNG SELLER – A 13-year-old girl travels 11 kilometers to sell mangoes and peanuts to provide money for her family.
“Poverty is not a hindrance to success.”
It is an old proverb that tells us that one can achieve his/her dreams in life no matter what; whether being poor or not coming from a well-off family or having a low economic status.
But poverty is somehow a hindering factor to a 13-year-old girl from Cebu in reaching her dreams and aspirations in life.
The girl, whose real name was withheld, travels from Labangon in Cebu City to Talisay City in southern Cebu in order to sell her products.
The girl decided to sell mangoes and peanuts after her parents were sent to prison due to illegal drugs.
The girl needs to work hard as the classes were about to start this coming Monday, August 22, 2022.
Her photos while selling mangoes and peanuts which were posted on the SunStar Cebu Facebook page has gone viral garnering mixed reactions from the netizens.
Some netizens said that she is one of those deserving to receive financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The said agency has rolled out giving financial assistance to needy students or “students-in-crisis.”
Accordingly, each student may receive P1,000 for those in elementary, P2,000 for those in high school, P3,000 for those in senior high school, and P4,000 for those in college/vocational school.
