Earlier, several countries in the European Union issued health safety warnings, not to consume popular Filipino instant noodles brand “Lucky Me” “due to high level of ethylene oxide.”

Ethylene oxide is a hazardous chemical commonly used to manufacture pesticides and disinfectants.

The governments of Ireland, France and Malta have ordered to recall the instant noodles in question being sold in their markets. The following are the flavors being recalled: ‘original’, ‘beef noodles’, ‘kalamansi’, ‘hot chili’, and ‘chilimansi’.

Lucky Me! has released an official statement regarding the alleged presence of Ethylene Oxide in their products.

Here’s the official statement of Lucky Me!:

According to the Philippine-based instant noodle brand, there’s an ongoing recall of their products in European countries and Taiwan.

Lucky Me also clarified that Ethylene Oxide is not added to their products but is only used to treat spices and seeds to control microbial growth.

This is not the first time the products were flagged by some countries in the European Union.

Last year, the Netherlands and Denmark also flagged the said products due to the use of ethylene oxide, according to the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed window.

Consumer Notice, a consumer advocacy organization said that ethylene oxide is “an environmental pollutant and is toxic to humans.”

Lucky Me! is an instant noodle brand distributed in the Philippines. Currently marketed and owned by Monde Nissin, it was first introduced in 1989.

  1. If it is hazardous to human why the FDA don’t have anything to do with this product. Maybe this is the time to band it also to the market…
