GSIS, PAG-IBIG FUND – The two government agencies are offering calamity and multi-purpose loans to victims of earthquake.

Earthquakes are among the natural occurrences that can happen anytime and anywhere. They can hardly be predicted as to when exactly it can occur and at what intensity. A quake can happen on land and underwater.

Recently, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 7.3 magnitude earthquake in Abra. After a while, it was downgraded to 7.0 magnitude.

The strong earthquake caused damage to public and private infrastructures in Abra. At least five (5) people were reported dead in different areas due to the quake.

The shaking was also felt in several parts of Metro Manila. At least 120 people were left injured by the natural occurrence. A lot of people especially in Abra lost their homes to the quake.

Recently, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Pag-IBIG Fund confirmed loan offers for the victims of the earthquake that hit Abra. The victims may apply for a calamity loan offer or a multi-purpose loan offer.

According to GSIS, a quake victim who is a government employee may borrow as much as P20,000. The insurance system’s acting senior vice president, Joseph Philip Andres, said that the borrower must be from a place that is declared under a state of calamity. The application can be done online or through the branch office nearest to you.

With regards to the Pag-IBIG Fund loan offers for the quake victims, based on the report, a member may apply for a calamity loan or avail the multi-purpose loan and borrow up to 80% of his or her savings. To apply for it, you may visit the branch of Pag-IBIG Fund nearest to you.
