Fishing is one of the leading sources of income among Filipinos especially those who are living in coastal areas.

However, fishing might be dangerous.

In fact, last May, a fishing vlogger took to social media wherein he shared his experience after being chased by sharks.

A certain Gary Sabanal has gone to the sea to catch tulingan, tuna, and talakitok. He was fishing peacefully at first until he noticed a shark’s fin.

Sabanal immediately paddled away, but the sharks seemed to be chasing him. One of them was even able to get close to his back.

Fortunately, the sharks disappeared when he got close to the other boats.

After the incident, Sabanal discovered that the sharks chasing him were actually butanding or whale sharks.

Meanwhile, a fisherman from Toboso, Negros Occidental had the greatest fear in his life after he accidentally swallowed the fish he caught and got stuck in his throat for approximately five (5) hours resulting in difficulty breathing.

The victim was trying to catch some fish and when he caught a fish called a climbing perch, hit allegedly bit it on the head hoping that the fish would die.

But due to the extreme agility of the fish, that has the size of a small palm, the victim accidentally swallowed it.

The climbing perch is a type of freshwater fish that is aggressive, slippery, and can live for 5 days even out of water.

He was immediately rushed to Toboso Municipal Health Office. He was then transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

In the video of the esophagoscopy procedure, the fish was seen blocking the airway or windpipe of the fisherman.

The operation was successful and now the victim is recovering.

Authorities advise fishermen to be careful when catching such fish.
