Here’s what Manny Piñol has to say about 4Ps
MANNY PIÑOL – The former Agriculture secretary believes that it would be better if the government doesn’t give money to the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4PS).
In a statement, he said that instead of distributing billions of pesos, the government should have used the funds for “livelihood funding”.
Piñol, the most vocal critic of 4Ps said that the program is spending 70 billion pesos annually, which is bigger than the budget of the Department of Agriculture.
According to Piñol via dailybncnews.com, the system of 4Ps is the reason why there are some people who no longer look for work because of the allowances they are expecting.
He noted that the workforce in the agriculture sector has been reduced because of the said program.
Meanwhile, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin Tulfo said that DSWD will delist nearly one million “undeserving” 4Ps beneficiaries from the social assistance program as it undergoes review.
DSWD has started reviewing the list of 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) beneficiaries to identify Filipino families that are no longer eligible to receive assistance under the social assistance program.
Previously, he told Teleradyo that families who have already met the self-sufficient stage or families without eligible household members will be delisted from the social assistance program and the vacated slots will be given to new 4Ps beneficiaries as many applicants are on the waiting list.
According to Tulfo, the program currently provides assistance to around 4.4 million 4Ps beneficiaries.
