An employee who was supposed to deposit company money, arrested
QUALIFIED THEFT – A company employee was arrested by Caloocan City police for allegedly stealing over P600,000 in cash, which he was supposed to deposit in a bank.
The suspect, identifed as Gerardo Caraballa, 49, is a resident of Camarin, Caloocan City.
Based on the investigation by the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS), the suspect went to the office of the company in Barangay 177 at around 8 a.m. on Monday, July 18.
He was tasked by one of his co-workers to deposit in a bank in Quezon City. The money amounting to P630,000 (in cash) was placed inside a gray backpack.
Later, the suspect called up one of the company’s staff, claiming that some unknown men held him up and allegedly took the bag.
Caraballa went to the CCPS Substation 11 at Sitio Maritik, Brgy. 175 to report the incident. He was accompanied by the company’s operations manager and two staff members.
But in the police questioning, the investigators discovered that no robbery-holdup has taken place. They found out that the suspect had deposited the money of the company in other banks.
Apparently, Caraballa has yet to reveal where he hid the money as well as the backpack.
The suspect who’s now under the custody of the police is facing qualified theft.
