Lorenzana welcomed the appointment of former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Jose Faustino Jr. as his successor.

In a statement on Friday, Lorenzana said he’s confident that General Faustino will continue the agency’s momentum in their “internal security and external defense operations, as well as the modernization of the armed forces and the entire defense organization”.

He added that he looks forward to working with the incoming DND chief and his team in the transition period leading up to June 30, 2022.

Lorenzana’s statement came after incoming Press Secretary Atty. Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles said that General Faustino will assume his post as Defense Secretary on November 13, 2022.

General Faustino, who had served as AFP chief during President Rodrigo Duterte’s term, was designated by incoming President Bongbong Marcos as senior undersecretary and officer-in-charge of the DND.

General Faustino will hit the ground running, so to speak, having just left the AFP in November,” said Lorenzana.

General Faustino retired as AFP chief last November 12, 2021.
