For the first time, Bugoy Cariño opens up about what he and EJ Laure went through when his girlfriend got pregnant
BUGOY CARIÑO – The former child star revealed in an interview with Karen Davila that he and his partner EJ Laure almost had an abortion.
Bugoy, 19, rose to fame when he became the winner of ABS-CBN talent search, Star Circle Kid Quest in 2009.
After his SCKQ stint, he had different projects on Kapamilya Network including a title role in the 2012 primetime series, E-Boy.
In 2017, his image was reinvented by Star Magic into a young teen heartthrob. Then, he became part of It’s Showtime boy group, Hashtags.
But in December 2017, Bugoy’s supposedly soaring career was put to halt when he disappeared from It’s Showtime.
According to rumors back then, Bugoy was suspended from the program because he allegedly got his girlfriend EJ pregnant. He was 16 years old at the time.
While EJ, now 24, was a volleyball star player of UST Golden Tigresses. In 2014, she was dubbed as Rookie of the Year of UAAP Season 77. In 2016, she became part of Foton Tornadoes for the Philippine Super Liga.
In 2017, EJ was begged off to join UAAP Season 82 due to a “chronic shoulder injury.”
Eventually, rumors spread that she might be pregnant as to why she did not play volleyball. She was twenty-one years old then.
The two denied such a rumor. After two years, EJ returned to play for Foton.
But last September 3, 2020, Bugoy and EJ finally admitted to having a child named Scarlet. They made the announcement during the 18th birthday of Bugoy.
Meanwhile, two years later, Bugoy Cariño opened up about his experience being a first-time father at the age of 16 in an interview with Karen Davila.
He also shared what he and EJ went through when the latter got pregnant.
According to him, it was difficult being a father at 16. At the time, his career as a teen actor is rising to stardom. He even starred in the remake of Spirits.
However, when he became a father, it seems that he lost everything.
Bugoy also opened up that he and EJ even thought of aborting the child in order to save their respective career.
