President Duterte: “I would like to express my gratitude sa inyo at maraming salamat po.”
PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE — The outgoing President expressed his gratitude to those who believed in him and brought him to the presidency as he counts his last days as the country’s Chief Executive.
Before the speech, the President indicated he’s now well-behaved compared to when he was new on the job as the country’s Chief Executive.
“Nakalagay dito, ‘Mr. President, we are live on television.’ Kaya takot sila magmura ako,” the President said. “I assure you I am quite behaved nowadays.”
In his speech during the Puregold Sari-Sari Store Negosyo Convention 2022 at World Trade Center Lobby in Pasay City, the President lauded small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for their ability to produce countless jobs for the Philippines’ growing labor force.

The President also said that his administration has always recognized SMEs as one of the backbones of the nation’s economy, but the coronavirus pandemic gravely affected the industry.
“And if the COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized anything, it is that SMEs are vulnerable to external shocks such as financial crises, disasters, and forced changes in the business movement and environment,” the President said.
President Duterte became president in 2016 following his promise to end corruption, criminality, and illegal drugs in 3-6 months. Before this, he served as Davao City mayor for almost 23 years.
As President Duterte counts his last days as the country’s President, he took the time to thank his supporters who allowed him to realize his desires for the Philippines.
“Mayroon akong papasalamat rin. For those who believe in me and for — I am on my tail end sa presidency ko,” the President said. “Yung tumulong sa akin, nagsuporta all these years at ‘yung umintindi ng mga hangarin ko sa ating bayan, and who have brought me, kayo, sa pagka-Presidente ko for six years, I would like to express my gratitude sa inyo at maraming salamat po.”
