Pinay entrepreneur introduces “Proof of Learn” NFT platform
PINAY ENTREPRENEUR — A Filipina entrepreneur has founded an education company wherein students are paid to learn using cryptocurrency.
“Proof of Learn“, according to its co-founder and CEO Sheila Lirio Marcelo, aims to make education accessible globally and has so far raised USD 17 million.
“As you’re completing courses, we’re giving you money. You can turn those rewards into cash or crypto to learn advanced courses,” Marcelo told ANC’s Headstart.
ABS-CBN News reported that Proof of Learn’s initial project is “MetaCrafters.io“.

Based on a report, “MetaCrafters.io” is a “part game, part learning platform” wherein “Crafters” or student developers are tasked to learn Web3 or decentralized applications that run on a blockchain or a system of recording information that is difficult to hack.
The said project was conceived when Marcelo heard of a 65-year-old grandmother in Cabanatuan who played NFT (non-fungible token) game “Axie Infinity”, which gained popularity in the country during the coronavirus pandemic.
“It inspired me to come out of my sabbatical. We really need to do something to help the Philippines, not only to be consumers on the internet, but how do we train them to create. Filipinos are so incredibly talented,” Marcelo said. “How do we teach Filipinos, who are by the way one of the largest holders of crypto wallets?“
The said project, according to Marcelo, aims to work with universities and BPO (business process outsourcing) companies. Marcelo, who is also the founder of caregiver service website “care.com”, said that it’s important for her to “be grounded”.
According to her, what’s important to her is that she’s a Filipina and she feels God gave her a blessing and a privilege to help more people.
