Senator Grace Poe has confirmed the death of Susan Roces.

The Kapamilya network has issued a statement, saying that Susan has instilled the values of love, faith, and hope with her portrayal in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” for many years.

The ABS-CBN family and the entire cast and crew of ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ led by Coco Martin deeply mourn the passing of legendary actress Ms. Susan Roces. We extend our deepest sympathies to Sen. Grace Poe and her family,” the statement reads.

According to ABS-CBN, Susan was “an exemplary icon” who was a source of strength and inspiration as she served the Filipino people.

Susan had been widowed after the death of her husband and fellow screen veteran Fernando Poe, Jr. (FPJ). Senator Grace Poe is their lone daughter.

The veteran actress, who was known as the “Queen of Philippines Movies”, rose to fame in the ‘50s and went on to become the foremost leading lady of local cinema.

As a screen veteran, Susan remained visible on screen, most recently as the well-loved “Lola Flora” in the long-running Kapamilya primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”.

Susan had been appearing in the Kapamilya program until early 2022. Her part in the TV adaptation of FPJ’s 1996 film had been one of her many ways of paying tribute to her husband.

FPJ was Susan’s first and only boyfriend before he became her husband. Though she was wooed by men from all fields, the veteran actress only had eyes for one man.

She remained single up to the time of her death after FPJ died in 2004.
