Senatorial candidate Rodante Marcoleta has withdrawn from the senatorial race.
RODANTE MARCOLETA — The House Deputy Speaker and SAGIP Party-list representative has withdrawn from the senatorial race.
Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner George Garcia confirmed Marcoleta’s decision to withdraw from the senatorial race, saying that the lawmaker came to see him in his office last April 21 to file his withdrawal.
“Pumunta po sya sa office ko dala ang withdrawal and I referred him to the law department,” Garcia said. “Confirmed and considered stray lahat ng boto nya.“
The poll body didn’t provide a copy of Marcoleta’s statement of withdrawal, but Anthony Taberna has obtained a copy of the said document and posted it on his Facebook page.
In a statement, Marcoleta said that he decided to drop his senatorial bid for the May 2022 elections because of his poor showing in running surveys conducted by different pollsters.
“The fighter in me should also be brave enough to read the writings on the wall. Let’s call a spade a spade,” Marcoleta said.

Marcoleta thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for encouraging him to run for senator in the 2022 elections, for his trust, and for his generous and positive endorsements, together with the efforts of the People’s Reform Party and PDP-Laban.
Also, Marcoleta thanked the UniTeam for including him in its senatorial slate and “for the enriching experience of speaking before multitudes who defied the heat and pouring rains in some rallies”.
He then clarified that his withdrawal from the senatorial race will not deter him from his all-out and continuing support for the Bongbong Marcos – Sara Duterte tandem and for all the senators in the PDP-Laban and UniTeam slates.
“The BBM-Sara tandem exemplifies the politics of unity and working together, despite the divergent political persuasions, for the sake of the motherland—an element that is conspicuously absent in other teams”, Marcoleta said.
