In a statement on Wednesday night, April 27, Bongbong’s spokesperson lawyer Vic Rodriguez said that they respect Marcoleta’s decision to drop out of the senatorial race less than two weeks before the 2022 elections.

The camp also expressed deep appreciation for Marcoleta’s continuous support for the BBM-Sara tandem and the UniTeam despite his decision to withdraw from the senatorial race.

Although it is with sadness that we receive the news that former Deputy House Speaker Rodante Marcoleta is withdrawing from the senatorial race, we opt to follow that there must be a higher reason behind it,” Rodriguez said. “At this point, we submit to serendipity, that everything happens from the point of view of destiny, believing that in the end, Rep. Marcoleta might be serving a different, yet a higher purpose.

The camp’s statement came after Marcoleta issued a statement announcing that he decided to drop his senatorial bid for the May 9 elections because of his poor showing in running surveys conducted by different pollsters.

Marcoleta clarified in his statement that his withdrawal from the senatorial race will not deter him from his continuing and all-out support for the BBM-Sara tandem and for all the senators in the UniTeam and PDP-Laban slates.
