It was in the early hours of February 24 when Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war against Ukraine via his State of the Nation Address.

In his statement, Putin believes that the leading members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) particularly the US was threatening to take over Russia.

NATO is an alliance of European and North American countries established to promote peace.

Led by the US, NATO- aimed to protect Western European countries from the threat of the Soviet Union and combat the spread of communism after World War II.

Meanwhile, some residents in Russia stage protest against their home country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Among those are the staff of Rain TV, an independent television network.

Their resignation took place during a live broadcast on Thursday, March 3.

The staff of the said network left a “no to war” message. Accordingly, they have experienced pressure from the Russian government- that threatened to shut down their network because of their use of the words “invasion” and “war” in their reports.

Employees of the said network cry foul over “special military operations” of Russia in Ukraine.

Rain TV went off the air last week so they delivered their news through their YouTube channel.

But on Thursday night, March 3, the network founders decided to stop the broadcast because it was impossible for them to continue their work since the Russian government is determined to shut them down.

When the broadcast ended, the video of Swan Lake, the 1875 ballet by Russian composers Giscard Rasquin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, was aired by Rain TV.

Swan Lake is seen on television in Russia when leaders die.

It was re-released during the Soviet coup d’etat attempt in August 1991 so the ballet became a symbol of instability.

Rain TV’s airing of Swan Lake is what they believe is a hint about the dark future and situation in the coming days of the Russian government-controlled media.
