Part of the beach in Boracay covered with green algae or lumot
BORACAY – Green algae or locally known as “lumot” covered a portion of the beach in the island paradise.
Lumot partially covers the shores of the famous white beach, particularly during February. It will automatically and gradually disappear by the mid or end of May.
Some residents believe that these green algae naturally dries up when exposed to sunlight.
Meanwhile, a netizen took to social media wherein he shared a photo of himself surrounded by green algae or lumot.
It was taken at the Station 1 of Boracay.
According to uploader Jhay-are Padilla, they went to Boracay for a vacation on February 14.
Boracay is a resort island located in the province of Aklan. It is well known for its white-sand beaches.
Aside from that, it is also famous for being one of the world’s top destinations for relaxation. In fact, it emerged as among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife in 2013.
It was also awarded by the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure as the 2012 Best Island in the World.

It was in April 2018 when the national government issued a decree to close the island paradise for rehabilitation. The renovation run for about six months and in October it was reopened to the public.
It was closed anew in 2020 at the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the beautiful tourist destination is open to the public.
