Just a gimmick? Here’s what VP Leni Robredo said to bashers of her recent viral photo
Vice President Leni Robredo showed a “resibo” to prove that her gesture of walking barefoot after the CNN Philippines presidential debate was not a stunt.
During the debate, the presidential aspirant of Angat Lahat team was wearing heels. Her supporters lauded her for her simplicity however, as expected, this received negative reactions from her critics.
The Vice President was accused of doing a PR stunt as her photo went viral. Her critics said that she was just trying to capture the attention of the public through a humble gesture.
Director Darryl Yap, a known supporter of VP Leni’s strong opponent Bongbong Marcos, even said that she should have the foresight already of how long the debate will take and should have used a more comfortable pair of shoes. Veteran broadcaster Jay Sonza also called Vpo Leni “cheap” because of this.
This issue online has reached the knowledge of the Vice President and she shared her reaction to this on her Facebook Page. VP Leni said that she did not know that her photo walking barefoot would be a topic among “trolls”.
“Pinagpipiyestahan pala ng trolls yung pag tanggal ko ng sapatos after the debate. PR stunt daw kasi election. Hindi naman yun first time,” she said. The Vice President stressed that she is doing this even before and not just during election time.
“Eto resibo. 2016 po ito. Tapos na election,” she said adding that the photo that was included in this post was taken during the birthday celebration of her late husband Jess Robredo.
Aside from the accusation of doing a PR stunt, VP Leni Robredo also addressed the accusations saying that she already received the questions in advance. “Also, sa mga nagsasabi na may advance questions akong natanggap sa debate. Thank you, kahit hindi totoo. Gusto bang sabihin, nagalingan kayo?” she said.
