CHED will continue flexible learning as a policy for HEIs.
CHED — The Commission on Higher Education said that it will continue flexible learning as a policy in higher education institutions (HEIs) despite the resumption of limited in-person classes.
In a report on GMA News’ “24 Oras” on Wednesday, CHED chairperson Prospero De Vera III said that the Commission on Higher Education will continue with flexible learning as a policy.
“We will continue with flexible learning as a policy. So universities have the option on the delivery modes that they will use,” De Vera said.
Last December, De Vera said that HEIs may preventively suspend limited in-person classes if they would be placed under high alert levels or under granular lockdowns.
According to Education Secretary Leonor Briones, the full implementation of face-to-face classes will not be fully implemented even until 2023.
“You mean full face-to-face na anim na oras, walong oras ang teacher at mga bata nagkakaharap, hindi ‘yan posibleng mangyayari,” Briones said. “Lahat ng bansa na binabantayan namin wala na yung notion na sinasabi nating full face-to-face, may blended component talaga.”

Several students, meanwhile, expressed their enthusiasm for the opening of limited in-person classes in some schools.
The resumption of in-person classes is now under its expanded phase. The Department of Education (DepEd) said that a total of 1,726 schools have started their limited face-to-face classes as of Monday.
According to DepEd, there are around 12,000 private schools and 47,000 public schools in the Philippines. With the de-escalation of alert status to Alert Level 1 in some areas, the DepEd is expecting that more schools will open limited face-to-face classes.
