Fire hits 16 houses in Boracay
BORACAY – At least 16 houses were hit by fire at the world-famous island on Wednesday afternoon, February 2.
A fire incident is defined as an incident involving smoke, heat, and. flames causing property damage to multiple building fixtures or fittings.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, a total of 77,724 fire incidents or an average of 15,545 fire incidents every year or 42 fire incidents a day have been recorded from 2013 to 2017.
Among the causes of fire incidents in the Philippines are open flame due to torch, unattended cooking and lighted candles, electrical connection, and lighted cigarette butts.
On the other hand, among the ways in order to prevent incidents of fire are the following; checking all electrical wirings regularly, avoiding electrical overloading, installing smoke alarms, no smoking inside the house, keeping matches and other flammable objects out of children’s reach and keeping the burning candles within our sight.
Meanwhile, at least 16 houses were hit by fire at Boracay Island on Wednesday afternoon, February 2.
According to Malay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (Malay MDRRMO), the fire took place at Zone 1, Sitio Bantud, Manoc-Manoc village.
Mayor Frolibar Bautista said that 15 of the 16 houses were totally damaged, while one house was damaged partially.
Apparently, some of the houses engulfed with flames were being rented out to tourism workers.
Based on the initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire (BFP), the fire started from a kitchen of one of the houses. The cost of the damages has yet to be determined.
Boracay is a resort island located in the province of Aklan. It is well known for its white-sand beaches.
Aside from that, it is also famous for being one of the world’s top destinations for relaxation. In fact, it emerged as among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife in 2013.
It was also awarded by the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure as the 2012 Best Island in the World.
It was in April 2018 when the national government issued a decree to close the island paradise for rehabilitation. The renovation run for about six months and in October it was reopened to the public.
It was closed anew in 2020 at the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the beautiful tourist destination is open to the public.
