Award-winning actress and eductor, Rustica Carpio dies at the age of 91
RUSTICA CARPIO – The veteran and award-winning actress passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the age of 91.
She died at her sister’s home in Cavite. It was confirmed by her nieces; Nessea Carpio and Myrea Baquiran.
Her remains will be cremated this afternoon, February 2.
Rustica Carpio was born in Paombong, Bulacan on August 9, 1930.
She was 45-years-old when she first had her movie project, Nunal sa Tubig, by the 1975 critically-acclaimed movie director and National Artist for Cinema, Ishmael Bernal.
Since then, Carpio’s movie and television assignments have followed, but she has continued her teaching profession.
Among the significant films, she has made are the following; Aliw (1979), Bona (1980), T-Bird At Ako (1981), Moral (1982), Rizal In Dapitan (1997), Lola (2009), and Captive (2012).
Her last movie was entitled Circa which premiered in 2019.
Rustica won international acting awards for her excellent performance in the film Lola (2009).
She was the Crystal Simorgh Best International Actress at the 2011 Fair International Film Festival (Iran), best actress at the 2010 Las Palmas International Film Festival (Gran Canaria, Spain), and best actress at the 2010 Gawad Urian.
She also received Lifetime Achievement Awards from various award-giving bodies for her contributions to the Filipino film industry.
Aside from being an actress, she was also once a radio singer. In fact, she went to Korea before just to perform.
Despite the awards she won and the high respect she earned from the Philippine movie industry, Carpio remained humble.
