Rowena Guanzon’s Vote on Marcos Jr. DQ Cases Not Counted by Comelec

Former Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon’s Vote not Included in Main Decision Over Marcos Jr.’s DQ Cases

ROWENA GUANZON – The Comelec 1st Division did not include in its resolution the vote of then Commissioner over the DQ cases versus former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

One of the topics that took social media by storm as it elicited different opinions is the decision on the consolidated petitions seeking to disqualify former Sen. Bongbong Marcos from the May 2022 presidential election. The petitions filed cited his non-filing of his income tax returns several times.

Three (3) consolidated petitions were raffled to Comelec’s 1st Division, a three-member then composed by Commissioners Aimee Ferolino, Rowena Guanzon, and Marlon Casquejo. Guanzon retired last February 2.

Prior to her retirement, Comelec Commissioner Guanzon spoke her claim that there is a delay in the release of the consolidated petitions’ decision. She also expressed her belief that there is allegedly some political intervention on the ruling of the cases.

Guanzon released a separate decision on the matter. She voted to disqualify Marcos Jr. citing her belief that there is moral turpitude in his multiple failures to file his income tax returns.
