The President said in a special episode of the “Cabinet Report” aired last February 25 that he did his job s head of the state and didn’t do any shenanigans.

President Duterte also emphasized that he’ll base his success or failure as the president on the feedback of the Filipino people.

On my honor as President, talagang ginawa ko ‘yung trabaho ko at wala ho akong ginawang kalokohan,” the President told Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) chief Martin Andanar. “Your success or failure would depend on the support of the people. Eh ginawa ko ‘yung trabaho ko sa tamang oras, sa tamang pamamaraan, sa tamang panahon.

President Duterte, the 16th president of the Philippines, will step down on June 30, 2022, exactly 6 years after his term started in 2016.

According to Andanar, the President is “enjoying 80 percent trust rating”. The President then expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him during his entire term.

I’d like to thank the Filipino people, maraming salamat sa inyo for the continued support at paniniwala ninyo sa akin, sa pagkatao ko, sa pagka-opisyal ko,” the President said.

Meanwhile, the President was asked why the transition to federalism didn’t pass during his term. According to the President, Filipinos weren’t ready to shift to a federal form of government.

The President explained that he communicated with local executives on shifting to a federal form of government but it wasn’t accepted by the people.

President Duterte had pushed for a shift to federalism as a means to address national economic and power imbalances. Under the proposed shift, the Philippines would be divided into states that would be formed from the existing regions.

“They are not enamored because there are many forms of parliament. Pag diyan mo na inaano, ang mga tao hindi talaga nakakaintindi… Hindi kami nagkulang. Pero as President and as honestly as I can be, hindi talaga tanggapin ng tao,” the President said. “Ayaw talaga, so hindi na lang rin ako, sinabi ko sa kanila, ayaw ng tao. Natakot sila na may more expanded powers.
