RICHARD GORDON — On Wednesday, the senator called on Social Security System (SSS) members and their employers to be wary of online scammers amidst the recent increase in the number of fraudulent transactions, especially during the pandemic.

The senator, who chaired the Senate Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, warned that online scammers will use their information in order to dupe and steal their hard-earned money.

We call on SSS members and employers not to divulge personal information such as their social security number, date of birth, and the like to people claiming as SSS employees,” said Gordon, who was seeking re-election in the 2022 elections.

Numerous incidents of theft and fraud from bank account shareholders were recently reported last December 2021 and many of the complainants were lured from a fraudulent email that looked legitimate in a process also known as “phishing”.

The Social Security System had warned the public against joining social media groups that claimed to help clients in different online transactions for a nominal fee, despite those services being available for free.

Also, SSS President and CEO Aurora Ignacio warned the public not to share their information with individuals who claimed to be employees of the agency.

A strong ally of the SSS, Senator Gordon said that its members should refrain from patronizing such illegal activities, for fixers weren’t responsible for any hitches that may come up later during the transactions.

Considering there is a pandemic right now, we should be more patient in the processing of our papers. Going to fixers is never the answer because you are condoning illegal activities,” the senator pointed out.

The senator also stressed that the bureaucratic red tape was reduced thanks to the Anti-Red Tape Act (ARTA), adding that they called on the Social Security System to continue providing efficient service so that the public will not resort to drastic measures such as fixers.
