In his “Talk to the People” public briefing aired Thursday night, the President said that he has received his booster shot against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to him, he received a Sinopharm booster shot after receiving his two-dose Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.

Sinopharm ang binigay sa akin eh but including the booster,” President Duterte said.

Like the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, the Sinopharm vaccine was made in China. However, the Sinopharm vaccine wasn’t as locally abundant as its Sinovac counterpart.

Prior to this, Cabinet Secretary and acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles was asked by Malacañang reporters several times late last year as to when the President would get a booster shot.

However, he couldn’t provide a date and instead said that President Duterte was waiting for his personal physician’s advice on whether to get a booster shot against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Kung tatanggap ba siya [President] o isasapubliko ba ang additional o booster shots, that’s actually between the President and his personal physician,” Nograles said. “Abangan na lang natin ano ang magiging advice ng kanyang personal physician.

To recall, the President received his first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine last May 3, 2021. At that time, the said vaccine brand didn’t yet have an emergency use approval (EUA) from the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

President Duterte then received his second dose of the same vaccine brand 70 days after receiving his first dose.
