DIONARDO CARLOS – The chief of Philippine National Police (PNP) tested positive for coronavirus diseae 2019 or COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic remains to be the biggest challenge that the country is facing today. This disease that started way back in 2019 at Wuhan, China has placed a lot of lives at risk and has even taken the lives of many people.

A lot of personalities such as celebrities, elites, and even politicians were infected with the coronavirus as well.

Among those who contracted the dreaded virus is no less than PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos.

On Tuesday, he sent a text message to reporters to confirm that he tested positive for COVID-19.

According to him, it is a suspected Omicron variant, which is said to be the most transmissible coronavirus variant, so far, according to experts.

The police chief said that his staff and close-in security underwent RT-PCR tests on Sunday, January 2 after one of his personnel apparently experienced fever and chills.

Carlos’s duty driver and aide also tested positive for COVID-19.

“I experienced fever, chills, and body sweats Sunday evening but come Monday, only lower back pain remains,” he said.

Based on the report of GMA News, the number of new COVID-19 cases among PNP has risen to 107 from eight (8) on Tuesday.

As per PNP data, the total active cases of PNP are now at 164.

So far, the PNP has logged 42,370 cases, of which, 42,081 have already recovered. On the other hand, a total of 125 PNP personnel have died due to COVID-19.
