Lani Mercado supports mandatory military service advocacy of Sara Duterte
LANI MERCADO – The wife of Senator Bong Revilla was slammed by some netizens for defending Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
Recently, the vice-presidential running mate of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said that she will push for mandatory military service if she’s elected vice president in the coming elections.
During the UniTeam’s Metro Manila Virtual Caravan, the presidential daughter said she would approach both the Senate and the House of Representatives to make this possible.
According to her, upon turning 18 years old, both males and females will be asked to serve the country by joining the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Nevertheless, they will be given a “subsidy”.
Apparently, many were not in favor of the proposal of the vice-presidential aspirant with some claiming that although she’s yet to be elected, she’s already acting like a dictator.
But Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado came to her rescue, defending her against criticisms.
“This will instill discipline among our youth. This will also be useful incase there is unrest. Survival training is also essential. Pagtumira sa bundok alam ang gagawin. Iba ang training n’yan,” she explained.
However, there are netizens who couldn’t help but mince words against Mercado.
One of the netizens asked her why should one live in the mountains.
Another netizen told her: “Hindi kailangan mag military training para matutunan ang tamang paglilingkod sa tao AT pagmamahal sa bayan. ‘Yung iba nga dyan, ilang dekada na sa ‘public service’, nangungurakot pa rin, DIBA?”
According to Bandera, most of the comments thrown at Mercado are not positive. Lani has yet to issue any statement about it.
