Ernesto Fajardo aka Don Pepot dies
DON PEPOT – The veteran comedian whose real name is Ernesto Fajardo passed away on Tuesday, January 18 at the age of 88.
Michael Fajardo, the son of the comedian, confirmed the sad news about the passing of his father.
He died due to pneumonia.
His career started in 1964 and he has starred in more or less 100 movies throughout.
His last project was via “Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako,” one of the official entries in Metro Manila Film Festival 2012.
He was last seen on television via a special tribute in Sunday PinaSaya on GMA-7 last July 2018.
At the time, Sunday PinaSaya honored him with the first-ever Puso ng Saya award, for entertaining the public as well as being an inspiration in the field of comedy.
To recall, it was in June 2005 when Don Pepot received a Lou Salvador Sr. Memorial Award during the 53rd FAMAS, for his contribution to the Philippine movie industry as a comedian.
Apeng Daldal, his fellow comedian, is considered his mentor and discoverer.
In February 2014, he was victimized by fake news after a hoax surfaced that he passed away due to complications from diabetes.
According to Michael, one of his father’s most memorable remarks, when he was still alive, was to throw away the good and pick up the bad.
“Itapon ninyo ang mabuti at pulutin ninyo ang masama. Kaya ko sinabi na itapon ninyo ang mabuti para mapulot ng iba at sila ay maging mabuting tao. Pulutin nino ang masama, ibaon ninyo sa lupa at nang mawala ang masama,” Don Pepot once said.
His remains were cremated earlier at Karuhatan de Solennelle while his wake will start on January 20, at Solennelle Funeral Homes along Maysan Road, Valenzuela City.
