DILG Reacts To “Arrest” Order for Unvaccinated Persons who will Disobery Rules
DILG – The Department of Interior and Local Government spoke on the “arrest” order for those who will violate the restrictions for unvaccinated persons.
The cases of COVID-19 in the capital region are increasing again prompting the national government to place the whole of Metro Manila under Alert Level 3. Stricter measures including curfew are up again in several cities.
The mayors in Metro Manila also arrived at a mutually-agreed decision to temporarily implement limits on the mobility of the unvaxxed individuals. A lot of Filipinos have yet to receive their jabs.
The decision of the mayors in line with the fight against the spread of COVID-19 gained positive feedbacks from several key authorities in the government. They even proposed to implement it across the nation.
Previously, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke in line with the said policy. He ordered the barangay captains to check on the unvaccinated residents in their areas and inform them not to go out. According to him, they can be arrested if they would not abide by the rules for the unvaxxed individuals.
Recently, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) spoke on the said order. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department stressed that the order aims the protection of the unvaccinated individuals amid the spike of the COVID-19 cases.
DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya stressed that unvaxxed persons are prone to critical illness and hospitalization and situations overwhelming the healthcare system must be prevented.
According to the Interior Undersecretary, an arrest is the last resort for those who won’t be abiding by the rules for the unvaccinated individuals. Interior Secretary Eduardo Año also stressed that the President was clear that the “arrest” order is only the last resort regarding the matter.
