Update on Metro Manila Restrictions for Kids aged 12 and Below
METRO MANILA MAYORS – The local officials of Metro Manila spoke on the decision over the mobility of kids aged 12 and below.
The COVID-19 pandemic has kept minors inside their houses for more than a year. They were restricted from going to public places even to schools to prevent contracting the disease and amid the prohibition of social gathering.
The schools in the Philippines adopted blended learning to be able to continue despite the situation now without risking the lives of the students. They get their lessons through the modules made by the teachers or through online classes.
It was just recently when the minors were allowed to be in public places like shopping malls. Undeniably, many parents brought their kids with them to the mall after staying indoors for more than a year.
However, a report about a two-year-old child who tested positive for COVID-19 three (3) days after going to the mall caught attention. It sparked calls to make changes to the recent announcement allowing the kids to public places.
Many people also joined the calls not to bring unvaccinated minors to public areas. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte earlier gave a message to the parents not to bring their unvaccinated kids to the mall as there are still threats of the virus.
Recently, the Metro Manila mayors spoke on the decision over the mobility of children aged 12 and below. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the local officials in the capital region are letting the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) decide on the matter.
The Metro Manila council expressed their belief that the IATF is in the best position to make the decision regarding the mobility restrictions of kids aged 12 and below citing that they have the needed scientific and empirical data.
