Mother of six-month-old child worried after her baby was accidentally vaccinated vs COVID-19
ACCIDENTALLY VACCINATED? – A six-month-old baby in Bulacan was unintentionally inoculated against COVID-19.
The COVID-19 vaccination continues to roll out across the country to combat the rapid increase of coronavirus disease 2019.
Among those who were on the priority list of the COVID-19 vaccination program are medical frontliners, persons with comorbidities, and senior citizens.
Pfizer–BioNTech, Oxford–AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sputnik V, Janssen, Covaxin, Moderna, Sinopharm BIBP, Sputnik Light and Novavax are some of the vaccines available in the country.
As of January 9, 2022, about 113,364,030 total vaccine doses have been administered throughout the country, with 52,393,229 being fully vaccinated, and 3,337,416 booster doses administered.
As per the order of the Department of Health (DOH), aside from adults, only kids aged 12-17 are allowed to be vaccinated. On the other hand, the country is eyeing to vaccinate kids aged 5-11 probably next month.
Apparently, babies are not yet allowed to receive a vaccine against COVID-19.
However, a baby in Sta. Maria, Bulacan was accidentally vaccinated against the coronavirus disease.
Based on the report, the baby was supposed to be inoculated with pneumococcal vaccine last December 29.
However, instead of receiving the said vaccine, the baby apparently was given a vaccine against COVID-19.
This worried the mother of the child after the baby had a fever.
“‘Yung future effect po kay baby kasi siyempre, baby pa ‘to. So ‘yung mga internal organs niya baka hindi kaya ‘yung gamot,” said the mother of the child.
Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje suspected that the two vaccines were placed inside the same refrigerator.
The incident is currently being investigated in order to find out what lapses have taken place.
