The two children were rescued by soldiers during an encounter with the members of the rebellious group in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.

Philippine Army 303rd Infantry Brigade Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte said the kids are now being treated after they were injured brought by the said encounter.

According to Pasaporte, the minors served the NPA as “runners.”

Among those rescued was a recruit of the rebel group way back in 2018.

The parents of the two children were also summoned, but they still remained under the custody of the Social Welfare and Development Office (SWDO).

“Regardless of how these two children were recruited and of their roles, they were victims whose participation in conflict bears serious implications for their physical and emotional well-being,” Pasaporte said.

Meanwhile, last year, twenty-four (24) ex-NPA members received P10,000 each in financial assistance from the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) of Agusan del Sur.

The former members of the New People’s Army surrendered to the 26th Infantry Battalion.

Lt. Col. Reynald Romel A. Goce promised the remaining NPAs in Agusan del Sur that they will be supported once they leave the communist group.

According to Goce, 74 of the 157 former rebels have already been given benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).
