PRESIDENT DUTERTE — The Philippine President has committed an additional PHP 10 billion to assist the provinces that felt the wrath of typhoon “Odette”
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday after President Duterte had a better grasp of the devastation caused by typhoon “Odette” to areas in Mindanao and the Visayas.
Nograles, who was also the acting Presidential spokesperson, said that the President vowed to raise additional funds for the rehabilitation and recovery efforts in areas affected by the typhoon.
“President Duterte also vowed to raise additional funds, estimated at P10 billion, for the rehabilitation and recovery efforts in the typhoon-affected areas,” Nograles said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by this natural calamity.”
Earlier, President Duterte had committed PHP 2 billion for areas affected by the typhoon, but this was made early in his inspection tour of the affected areas.

Nograles also revealed that the President, together with Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and other government officials, visited the victims of typhoon “Odette” in Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental last Monday, December 20.
The acting Palace spokesman said that President Duterte was given a situation briefing by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson, after which the President provided guidance and issued directives to national agencies in order to address the immediate concerns of the local governments of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental.
“In addition to these directives, the Chief Executive gave instructions to immediately complete the construction of the Kabankalan airstrip,” Nograles said.
