Pres. Duterte Gives Guidance on Recovery of Negros Occidental from Odette
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited the province of Negros Occidental which is one of those hit by Typhoon Odette.
Several areas in the Philippines were greatly devastated by the wrath of Typhoon Odette. Among the cities that experienced deep flooding are Kabankalan City and Sipalay City in the province of Negros Occidental.
Communication and electricity lines are still down in several areas hit by Odette. Loss of lives was recorded and as well as massive destruction of properties.
Several incumbent government officials are visiting the places hit hard by Typhoon Odette. Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte flew to Negros Occidental province.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended a situation briefing by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson held in Kabankalan City.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said that the President gave guidance and issued directives to national agencies to address the immediate concerns of the Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental local government units (LGUs).
Furthermore, based on the report, the President also promised to increase the additional funds intended for the rehabilitation and recovery efforts in the areas hit by the typhoon to an estimate of P10 billion.
Currently, both Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental are under a state of calamity. In the latter, several families lost their houses to the strong winds and after those were hit by falling trees. Some people are staying in evacuation centers and temporary shelters now following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.
Several foreign countries including Japan and France have vowed to help the Philippines in recovering from the effects of Odette. France vowed to let PH borrow $14 billion for the recovery efforts while the Japanese government assured to send disaster relief assistance like tents, water containers, and sleeping beds.
