Bongbong Marcos Says PhilHealth Should Pay Hospital Claims Before Yearend

Former senator Bongbong Marcos said that PhilHealth should pay hospital claims before 2021 ends.

BONGBONG MARCOS — The presidential aspirant said on Wednesday that the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) should settle the unpaid hospital claims before 2021 ends.

Bongbong’s statement came after several private hospitals in Iloilo decided not to renew their partnership with PhilHealth in 2022 because they have yet to receive full payments.

According to him, PhilHealth should settle the payment because coordination between the state health insurer and private hospitals was needed in this pandemic.

If this continued, the presidential aspirant said that Filipinos will be severely affected by the situation as they’ll shoulder 100% of medical fees.

“Sana mangyari ito dahil napakalaking bagay ang maayos na koordinasyon ng PhilHealth at private hospitals ngayong panahon ng pandemya,” Bongbong said in a statement. “Napakahalaga na may matatakbuhan ang mga kababayan nating nangangailan ng tulong, lalo na sa panahon ngayong may pandemiya.

Bongbong also said that the state health insurer should enhance its coordination with private hospitals and should ensure that the hospitals were being paid so that services and health care facilities will not stop.

To recall, the state health insurer said in a previous statement that it was already addressing its payables to the hospitals as it vowed to increase its manpower in order to speed up the processing of claims.

Rey Balena, the Corporate Communications Senior Manager at PhilHealth, said last month that the unpaid hospital claims were expected to be settled before December.
