As of now, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said that President Duterte was more focused on providing assistance to those affected by typhoon “Odette”. The senator said that it seemed like the President didn’t want to discuss politics at the moment.

Up to this date, wala pa po. At parang ayaw munang pag-usapan ni Pangulong Duterte ang pulitika dahil nasa krisis pa nga tayo,” Go said in a radio interview over the weekend. “Pangit naman pag-usapan ang pulitika dahil mayroon pa ngang mga biktima ng typhoon at nasa gitna pa tayo ng krisis ng COVID-19.

Go also said that President Duterte has chosen whom he would support before the campaign period and so they can campaign for that candidate.

The senator had earlier withdrawn his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president. He reiterated that he’ll support the candidate who would be endorsed by President Duterte and will continue the Duterte administration’s initiatives.

Ako naman po, kung sino ang gusto niya at makakapagpatuloy ng mga programang inumpisahan ni Pangulo, ‘yon ang aking susuportahan,” Go said. “I am willing to campaign doon sa makakapagpatuloy ng mga magagandang programa ni Pangulong Duterte.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) recently released its updated tentative list of candidates for the 2022 elections.

The number of presidential aspirants decreased significantly after the poll body removed names of nuisance candidates. From 97 aspirants who filed their COC back in October, there were only 15 presidential aspirants for the country’s top post as of December 23, 2021.
