Earlier, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte withdrew her certificate of candidacy for reelection in her home city.

Her surprise move fueled talks that she would run for a higher position in the coming elections by the virtue of substitution.

But Senate President Vicente Sotto III has no comment regarding the possibility of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio running for vice president.

When asked by the reporters; “Possible ninyo siyang makalaban. Are you in any way worried?”

He responded with: “I have no comment.”

Mayor Sara is expected to announce her final political plans for 2022 before November 15.

But according to Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda also opined that a vice-presidential run wasn’t an option for Mayor Sara amidst speculations that she might team up with another presidential aspirant, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

When asked why Mayor Sara changed her mind about her election plans, Salceda said that she “wanted to be president in the first place since May.”

Salceda also said that Mayor Sara, who chaired regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), may likely run under Lakas-CMD.

On the other hand, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Spokesperson James Jimenez said in an interview that Mayor Sara may run for a national post in the 2022 elections but not under her regional party.

According to Jimenez, Mayor Sara has to be a member of the same national political party as the person she will substitute for, in case she will do so.
