Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will announce her political plans for 2022 before November 15, according to Salceda.
Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda said on Wednesday that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will announce her final political plans for 2022 before November 15.
Salceda’s remark came after Mayor Sara withdrew her reelection bid as Davao City mayor, fueling talks about her seeking a higher position in the 2022 elections.
In an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel, Salceda shared that Mayor Sara said she’s now a “last-minute candidate”.
“Ang sabi kasi nya, she’s now last minute candidate e. E sabi ko nga baka you might be violating what you said earlier. So definitely hindi ‘yan Monday (November 15),” Salceda said. “[It’s] earlier than Monday.”
Salceda also opined that a vice-presidential run wasn’t an option for Mayor Sara amidst speculations that she might team up with another presidential aspirant, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

According to him, he last spoke with Mayor Sara last Tuesday when she withdrew her candidacy for reelection.
“Kasi may presumption kami that she’s running for president… there is no VP option for her. And picking a VP for her is not a problem,” Salceda said. “Based on our long-running chats, kilometric chats that she eyes… because I provided her with so many data, data analytics, and everything about her prospects. I think she will make a good president.”
When asked why Mayor Sara changed her mind about her election plans, Salceda said that she “wanted to be president in the first place since May”.
Salceda also said that Mayor Sara, who chaired regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), may likely run under Lakas-CMD.

Meanwhile, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Spokesperson James Jimenez said in an interview on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday that Mayor Sara may run for a national post in the 2022 elections but not under her regional party.
According to Jimenez, Mayor Sara has to be a member of the same national political party as the person she will substitute for, in case she will do so.
“Political party po ‘yan [Hugpong ng Pagbabago] pero regional. So hindi siya puwedeng tumakbo sa national level except as an independent candidate,” Jimenez said. “Ang kailangan lamang ay maging member siya ng political party noong taong isa-substitute niya. Ibig sabihin hahalili siya sa ibang tao, kailangan kapartido siya ng taong ‘yon.”
