He will run under Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino (KDP), replacing Antonio Valdez as its standard bearer.

Parlade filed his candidacy on November 15, the last day of substitution for the 2022 polls.

After retiring from the military and resigning from his post as NTF-ELCAC spokesperson, he was appointed as deputy director-general of the National Security Council.

Meanwhile, Parlade is a former Philippine Military General who retired as commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command in 2021.

He’s best known for his term as spokesperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

Parlade has received media attention numerous times throughout his career.

In October 2018, he was heavily criticized by De La Salle University, the University of Santo Tomas, and numerous other Higher Education Institutions when he identified 18 universities and colleges in Metro Manila as venues for recruitment for an alleged plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.

In October 2020, he was likewise criticized for accusing Manila Mayor Isko Moreno of “welcoming” Communists to the city after the Mayor ordered the taking down of unauthorized tarpaulins that erroneously declared Communists as persona-non-grata.

He also was accused of “red-tagging” a number of high-profile celebrities, such as Angel Locsin, Liza Soberano, and Catriona Gray by associating their advocacy with the New People’s Army.
