Nograles Says PDP-Laban Cusi Faction To Hold Meeting For Endorsement Of VP Candidate

The Cusi-led PDP-Laban will hold a meeting for the endorsement of a vice-presidential candidate in 2022 elections, according to Nograles.

KARLO NOGRALES – The Cabinet secretary and acting Presidential spokesperson said on Tuesday that the Cusi faction of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party will hold a National Council Meeting in order to finalize the details about who it will endorse as vice president in the 2022 elections.

However, Nograles didn’t answer the question if the ruling party will endorse the candidacy of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte for vice president.

Mayor Sara, who topped the presidential preference surveys, was running for vice president under Lakas-CMD in the 2022 elections.

President Rodrigo Duterte was supposed to run as vice president under PDP-Laban, but he changed his mind at the last minute as he’s running for senator under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).

So, we are just finalizing the details on time, date, venue para mapag-usapan po iyong isyung ‘yan or iyang katanungan na ‘yan at iba pang mga kailangan nating pagdesisyunan sa partido ng PDP-Laban,” Nograles, who was also a member of PDP-Laban, said during the Presidential press briefing.

Whoever the party will endorse will tandem with Senator Bong Go, who, despite running under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan, has the full support of the President and his allies.

Senator Go and President Duterte were running under PDDS because of an “ongoing legal issue” with PDP-Laban.

The ruling party was divided into two factions when the faction of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi wanted Mayor Sara and Senator Go to run as president and vice president, respectively, while the faction of Senator Koko Pimental, the son of PDP-Laban’s founder Nene Pimentel, supported presidential aspirant Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Nograles didn’t see any problem with Senator Go and President Duterte running under PDDS since it’s also allied with PDP-Laban.

PDDS was formed by then Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) chairman Greco Belgica in order to support President Duterte. His father, Grepor Belgica, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president.

It was the elder Belgica that Senator Go substituted for under the withdrawal and substitution provision of the Omnibus Election Code.
