Nograles has advised the public to wear their face shields again.
KARLO NOGRALES — The acting Presidential spokesperson has advised the public to wear their face shields again as it added protection against the Omicron variant.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles made the statement as the Philippines closed its borders to 14 countries because of the highly mutated COVID-19 variant and due to the high number of coronavirus cases in some territories.
Nograles said in his press briefing on Monday that while face shields are now voluntary in many areas in the country, it would be better for the public to be on the safe side.
“Of course, it is an added layer of protection. While it is voluntary, siyempre– Ako, personally, I would like to encourage ang ating mga kababayan [to wear face shields],” Nograles said. “Kung kaya naman po magsuot ng face shield ay magsuot ng face shield para dagdag proteksyon na lamang po.”
Despite this, Nograles said that the decision on the use of face shields in the country will be up to the experts.

Nograles, meanwhile, assured the public that the government was actively monitoring the developments worldwide.
“Ito po ay mandatory sa mga healthcare settings at sa ibang settings naman po ay voluntary siya. But we ask the experts,” Nograles said.
National Task Force Against COVID-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. floated the idea over the weekend that the government may require the use of face shields anew amidst the threat of the Omicron variant which was first discovered in South Africa.
