KBL declared its support for President Duterte’s Senate bid.
KBL – The Kilusang Bagong Lipunan announced on Tuesday that the party will support the senatorial bid of outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte.
This, as Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president and House Majority Leader Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said that he’s honored to nominate President Duterte for inclusion in the list of senatorial candidates that the party will adopt.
The Kilusang Bagong Lipunan was a political party formed by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
KBL senatorial aspirant Larry Gadon said that the party will continue to support President Duterte and will campaign for his senatorial bid, adding that the party will appeal to the people to vote for him.
Gadon, the lone KBL bet for the Senate, said that Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos has also declared his support for President Duterte as a senatorial candidate.
“Bongbong Marcos fully understands President Duterte’s stand in backing another presidential candidate. He respects the president’s stand,” Gadon said.
Gadon added that this position was revealed to him during a meeting with Bongbong on Monday.

President Duterte has filed before the Commission on Election (COMELEC) his candidacy for senator as the official candidate of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).
According to Gadon, the KBL’s decision to support President Duterte’s senatorial bid was the party’s way of thanking him for “giving Filipinos the leadership they truly deserve” since his election as president in 2016.
Romualdez, meanwhile, said in a statement that the Lakas-CMD was among the major political parties in the Philippines that helped President Duterte be elected in 2015.
“With President Duterte’s filing of candidacy for senator in 2022 election, it will be my honor, as Lakas-CMD President, to nominate his name for inclusion in the list of senatorial candidates to be adopted by the party,” Romualdez said.
According to Romualdez, the National Executive Committee of Lakas-CMD was currently formalizing the list of 12 senatorial candidates to be supported by the party in the May 2022 national elections and will make a formal announcement on the matter the soonest time possible.
