Eleazar to run for senator in 2022 elections, according to Lacson.
Presidential aspirant and incumbent Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said that newly-retired Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar will run for senator in the 2022 elections under Partido Reporma.
In a message sent to reporters, Lacson confirmed that Eleazar will run under Partido Reporma to substitute for Paolo Capino who had recently announced his intention to withdraw from the senatorial race.
Lacson’s announcement came a day after his running mate, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, said that they’re trying to convince Eleazar to run for senator in the 2022 elections.
Eleazar served as the PNP chief for 6 months. President Rodrigo Duterte had recently appointed Dionardo Carlos, the chief of PNP directorial staff, as Eleazar’s successor.
Capino, who was part of the senatorial slate of Lacson and Sotto, announced his withdrawal from the senatorial race last Friday.

Capino said in a series of tweets that his chances of winning in the 2022 elections were “slim to none” and he recognized the need to further introduce himself and his advocacies.
“I am officially announcing my withdrawal from the Senate race. The last survey which included my name in it, means my chances of winning are slim to none,” Capino said. “I recognize the need to further introduce myself and my advocacies.“
According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), it has designated a receiving area at the lobby of the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila for political aspirants applying for withdrawals and substitution until November 15.
