Ang Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kuwento was his last television assignment. In fact, he even taped an episode of the series back in July 2021, before he was confined at a hospital due to a heart attack.

When he was discharged from the hospital, he, unfortunately, acquired COVID-19 which led to his confinement. Because of this, Michael V, one of the lead stars of Bubble Gang and Pepito Manaloto, organized a fund-raising event.

Meanwhile, social media has been flooded with condolences to the bereaved family of De Leon, who is considered a great loss because of his contributions to the television industry.
