The senator may start roaming around the Philippines for his presidential bid after November 15, admitting that his hopes for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte possibly changing her minds on her political plans was one of the reasons why he has not started his campaign trail yet.

Dela Rosa was asked about his reasons why his campaign seemed to be lagging behind, while other presidential aspirants have started to hit the campaign trail by visiting provincial and local government leaders around the country.

The senator told reporters that they will start campaigning after November 15, 2021.

Kasama na rin ‘yan pero as of now, alam natin na kung talagang hindi na siya magbabago, ready naman tayo. Tuloy-tuloy ito,” Dela Rosa said when pressed if one of the reasons behind this was that he’s still hoping that Mayor Sara would change her mind about running for the presidency.

According to the senator, it wasn’t yet the campaign period, after all, adding that his strategy of facing the media seemed to be “more effective” at the moment.

Nonetheless, the senator acknowledged the importance of physically campaigning for the 2022 elections.

Sige lang paunahin na muna sila. Hahabol lang ako. Hahabol rin ako,” Dela Rosa said, referring to the other presidential candidates. “Hindi talaga maiwasan ‘yan pero pag nagstart ang campaign period, we have to be there. We have to be physically within reach sa mga tao para mapaaabot natin sa kanila yung gusto nating ipaabot.

The senator, who was the standard-bearer of the Cusi-led PDP-Laban party, had been vocal about being open for substitution with Mayor Sara, who has opted to run for re-election as mayor of Davao City.

However, the Cusi-led PDP-Laban has stressed that their stand remained that Dela Rosa pushed through with his presidential bid.
